June 14 - June 18, 2021Grades 3 - 6
The mission of SU Theatre Arts Camp is to provide a nurturing environment where young children can learn about the theatre. Research demonstrates that children involved in the arts improve creativity, self-confidence, problem-solving, memory, communication, commitment, collaboration, and focus. Additionally, such experience promotes a lifelong love and appreciation of the arts.
Campers will enjoy discovering the stage and rehearsing a play selected especially for them. Children will encounter acting, theatre games, line memorization, and theatrical movement. A final performance for family and friends will conclude a fun-filled week. The ensemble performed the hilarious comedy, The Emperor’s New Clothes.
The theatre opportunity will also include great food, air conditioned spaces, a tour of the Broadway-style Luhrs Performing Arts Center, improvisational games, and recreational swimming. Students will receive a complimentary full cast production photo.
Participants need no prior experience on stage to be an excellent candidate for this camp. The camp is designed to encourage blossoming newcomers. Applicants must be entering grades 3–6 to qualify for this camp. Camp participants also must be able to provide their own transportation to and from the Memorial Auditorium located on the campus of Shippensburg University.
